Introducing... AUNTIE...
"Auntie" = a noun, defined as:
- An aunt, i.e. a parent's sister
- Any older female adult
This auntie (under definition #2) offers another definition:
"Auntie" = a description of someone who does... auntie things!
Ok, I'm not a terribly good teacher... Allow me to illustrate the meaning instead:
Why are you pressing all the fish for firmness? Stop doing such auntie things!
Somewhat derogatory? Sometimes. But other times, it can also be endearing :)
You like Daiso? Me too! We're so auntie! Haha!
Correspondingly, there is also "uncle". Which happens to describe the hub :p
When I left my job after 18 years and became a stay-at-home-mum (SAHM). SAHM - as opposed to full/part-time working mum, I suppose? Anyway... In the lead-up to that, I started thinking about what I could do in my spare time. At some fuzzy point, it hit me that this auntie could share auntie info with all the aunties, aunties-to-be and auntie wannabes out there :) And uncles of course.
But guess what? Spare time was scarce as a SAHM! 😖
So my separate blog "You can call me AUNTIE" died a natural death within a year... I'm resuscitating it by merging it with mf-ism.
If my memory serves me well, I was first called "auntie" by a random kid when I was just past my mid 20s. A little stunned, but sure since I was 20 years older than him.
Fast forward a few years, friends' kids started talking and I was of course "auntie" to them. By then, Sito and I have discovered how "uncle" and "auntie" we are, especially in the supermarket.
Then there was this incident where this GRANDMA more than double my age and sitting between HDB* blocks with her granny friends beckoned to me, calling me "auntie" and asking for the time. WHOLE NEW LEVEL!
10 years on, I embrace my auntiehood, or what I thought was auntiehood - you know, buying toilet rollswithout on bulk discount. As I shed my OL role and stepped into the life of a SAHM, I'm experiencing auntiehood like never before.
*Housing Development Board. I'm based in Singapore but auntie stuff is universal!

AND I LOVE IT!
Welcome to my auntie world. Be sharing little tips and discoveries to help all aunties and aunties-at-heart. (And uncles - but may I please just use "auntie" like the royal "we"?) Some examples below. Happy to get ideas from you in the comments!
- Child care and coaching - 3Cs; for my three boys
- Cleaning - 4th C
- Cooking - 5th C, and these are the true five Cs
- Home improvements - how a little change makes a big difference
